How is data partitioned amongst the servers?

• The namespace is divided into zones

• Each zone has two or more authoritative nameservers

  • One primary or master
  • One or more secondaries or slaves
  • Slaves periodically update from master

• Each server is authoritative for any number of zones (zero or more)
