Introduction

This half day supplemental session is part of the AfNOG 2004 Workshop on Network Technology, held in conjunction with the AfNOG meeting in Dakar, Senegal, in May 2004.

A half-day session before the formal start of the AfNOG 2004 workshop is held for those students needing some intensive, hands-on training to introduce them to the FreeBSD operating system and UNIX operating system concepts in general.

The topics covered include: Installation Concepts; Disk Partitioning Schemes; Directory Structures; Operating System Commands; vi Editor Usage; Finding System Information; Software Installation Methods; Permissions and Files; Network Configuration; Processes and Process Initialization; System Shutdown and Restart Concepts;

Who should attend: AfNOG 2004 attendees who are not proficient at with the use of the FreeBSD operating system.

Prerequisites: Basic computer experience.
