Introduction

This Workshop on Network Technology is held from 7 to 12 May 2006, in conjunction with the seventh meeting of the African Network Operators Group, AfNOG 2006, which takes place from 13 to 15 May 2006, and with the fourth public meeting of AfriNIC, AfriNIC IV, which takes place from 16 to 17 May 2006.

The venue for both the Workshop and the AfNOG and AfriNIC meetings is the Sarova Panafric Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya.

The workshop aims to offer advanced training to operators of existing African Internet Service Providers (ISPs) who are participants in the process of developing and enhancing a national Internet with regional and international connectivity.

This workshop builds upon the experiences of the previous AfNOG workshops held in Cape Town (South Africa) in 2000, Accra (Ghana) in 2001, Lomé (Togo) in 2002, Kampala (Uganda) in 2003, Dakar (Sénégal) in 2004, Maputo (Moçambique) in 2005, and the Internet Society's INET workshops held from 1993–2000 at eight locations around the world.

Goals

The goals of the Workshop are:

Workshop tracks / Thèmes des ateliers

An intensive program of instruction is planned for the workshop, composed of three instructional tracks in English, and one in French. Participants attend only one of the tracks, since the tracks run concurrently. All participants will engage in extensive hands-on training, setting up and managing prototype infrastructure and services.

Detailed information for each track appears below.
