Why use an Exchange Point?

- Routers are attached to exchange traffic
- MLPA, bilateral, customer/transit relationships
- Examples in U.S:
-
- AADS
- Mae-East/Mae-West
- Pacbell
- PAIX

  Notes:

- Routers are attached to exchange point medium.
- Various types of peering relationships are possible at an exchange point
	- MLPA - multi-lateral peering agreement
(every peer agrees to peer with every other peer)
	- Bilateral - exchange of information between two peers
	- Customer - one ISP provides transit for another
	- Route Server - third-party bilateral peering
- Cheaper and more efficient than setting up multiple private exchanges.
