Introduction

This Workshop on Network Technology is held from 9 to 14 June 2013, in conjunction with a meeting of the African Network Operators Group, AfNOG 2013, an AfriNIC public policy meeting, AFRINIC-18, and several other meetings from 15 June to 21 June 2013.

The venue for the workshop is the Top Floor training facility, in Lusaka, Zambia.

The workshop aims to offer advanced training to operators of existing African Internet Service Providers (ISPs) who are participants in the process of developing and enhancing a national Internet with regional and international connectivity.

This workshop builds upon the experiences of the previous AfNOG workshops held in Cape Town (South Africa) in 2000, Accra (Ghana) in 2001, Lomé (Togo) in 2002, Kampala (Uganda) in 2003, Dakar (Sénégal) in 2004, Maputo (Moçambique) in 2005, Nairobi (Kenya) in 2006, Abuja (Nigeria) in 2007, Rabat (Morocco) in 2008, Cairo (Egypt) in 2009, Kigali (Rwanda) in 2010, Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) in 2011, Serrekunda (Gambia) in 2012, and the Internet Society's INET workshops held from 1993 to 2000 at eight locations around the world.

AfNOG 2013 was made possible by generous contributions from several sponsors.

Goals

The goals of the Workshop are:

Workshop tracks / Thèmes des ateliers

An intensive program of instruction is planned for the workshop, composed of three instructional tracks in English, and one in French. Participants attend only one of the tracks, since the tracks run concurrently. All participants will engage in extensive hands-on training, setting up and managing prototype infrastructure and services.
